Ngizwe Youth Theatre has been running for the last five years in Noordgesig – an impoverished community in Diepkloof, Soweto.

It is a desperately poor community with high levels of unemployment  and violent crime. There are also limited recreational activities or safe spaces for young people to use after school. Very few schools in the area offer arts subjects to a Matric level, so Ngizwe creates an opportunity for learners to be creative.

We passionately believe that the youth in this community need the opportunity to express themselves and create real stories about themselves and their community.

It is a joyous space, a refuge from the harsh realities that force them to grow up long before their time.  A place to play, speak out and feel safe.  A place of healing.
